Using the trips and new sceneries to relax and escape reality traveling has become my favorite hobby. I have been on multiple road trips visiting over 30 states and Canada as well. One of my most memorable trips was the most recent one I took to New York with my cousin to visit my sister. We took off the Friday after Christmas break on the 22nd in the afternoon and got there at night. This was my 5th time in New York and I already knew I do not enjoy it there, so this whole trip my idea was to convince myself to like it just a little bit more. It was only my sister, cousin, and I, so this granted us the freedom that brown girls never get when we are at home. After the first night, we began to mess up our sleep schedule to the point we only saw sunrise never sunset because we would be asleep during the day. When we were not out we were at home doing puzzles and binging movies all night. If I could guess I would say we watched over twenty movies and two whole shows in the 10 days we visited her. We also completed two 1000-piece puzzles that were nearly impossible and took all the brain cells I did have.
When it came to going out we wanted to experience New York's nightlife not out of choice more because that was the only time we could stay awake. We got ready around 2AM and got to the city after the disgusting 40-minute Uber ride that probably was not worth our $50 as we sat in silence, sweating, and just wanting to go home. When we finally got to the city we went to Rockefeller Center to see a tree you can not even get near. Waste of time man never plan on going there again. Then we went on a 30-minute walk to the Hudson Yards which was a cute spot to take pictures, but a boring time overall. I do not recommend walking around New York at this time because all the creepy guys are out and you will get catcalled no choice. Around 5:30 AM we went back home and slept like never before. Again we went out two days later, but this time around 8PM so we could go to the Bryant Park Winter Village. This is the only thing I would come back for to New York at Christmas time. It was such a pretty and dun experience, there were so many shops and activities such as ice skating. Unfortunately, ice skating was too expensive if you did not own skates already so we had to skip out on that. However, even then this was my favorite day because we got to stay out and do so much and try so much random food. After the shops all closed we went into Times Square just to walk around, but it was boring so we went home soon after.
The biggest issue we had though during the trip was accommodating our food. My sister only eats halal unlike my cousin and I who do not, so we usually could not eat when we were out unless we wanted street food. When we did not meal prep and ran out of groceries we had to spend so much money and time to feed the three of us. 3 different times we ended up having to run around the apartments because these delivery people would always drop it at the wrong house. The guy in the lobby knew our faces at that point because of the amount of time we came down at like 2AM. Also, I have created so many random meals as I did in those 10 days because we always ate random leftovers and meals my sister made. Overall though the trip was practically a mess, it represented me as a person and was the perfect way for me to relax and get away from everything back home. I did miss my family and best friend a lot, so next time maybe I will choose a shorter trip.
